Georgia Louth
Georgia is an Associate based in P&E Law’s Maroochydore office, working predominantly in the area of Planning and Environment Law.
Georgia completed a Bachelor of Laws with honours, and Bachelor of Science (majoring in ecology) at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Georgia came to the firm in 2021 whilst undertaking the honours component of her law degree, for which she decided to prepare a paper on the effectiveness of the environmental protection legislation in Queensland, drawing on case examples of recent or proposed developments across South-East Queensland.
With a primary focus on planning and environment law, Georgia thrives on the practical problem solving aspects of her work. She enjoys crafting detailed advice for clients and navigating complex issues during proceedings in the Planning and Environment Court.
Georgia has a particular interest, and extensive experience, in navigating the environmental protection legislative and regulatory framework, adeptly managing matters of that kind both in and out of Court.
In addition to her work in planning and environment law, Georgia represents local native title groups in matters involving native title and cultural heritage, and represents landowners involved in renewable energy negotiations.
Outside of work, Georgia enjoys playing hockey, spending time with family and friends, and taking her dog for walks along the beach.
Experience
Planning and Development: Experience in guiding clients through the submission and approval/refusal processes for development applications, including by providing advice during the development assessment process and assisting clients to navigate complex legal matters related to land use and development. Skilled in assisting clients with appeals to the Planning and Environment Court, acting for both developers and community groups.
Planning Regulatory Framework Advisory: Offers comprehensive guidance in relation to the interpretation and application of the planning legislative framework, including by providing advice to clients so that they understand their rights and obligations. That experience also extends to assisting clients to navigate the effect of local laws through providing advice in relation to their interpretation and how they operate in the context of the broader legal framework.
Community Engagement: Proficient in liaising with community groups and stakeholders to facilitate effective communication and resolve disputes related to planning and environment issues.
Environmental Protection Legislation: Expertise in analysing various environmental laws and providing subsequent advice to clients both in and out of Court, including by leveraging recent cases to inform strategies for clients.
Native Title and Cultural Heritage: Advises native title groups on matters concerning native title and cultural heritage, and provides assistance to native title groups throughout various negotiation processes.
Renewable Energy Projects: Experienced in supporting landowners through the legal landscape surrounding renewable energy initiatives, and providing guidance to landowners and assisting them throughout various negotiation processes.
